PIONEER CLASSIFICATION SUCCESS at LAKE SUCCESS BUSINESS PARK
ANJV employees helped to develop and define successful classification procedures and methods. During the development process, we conducted an 88-acre detection survey and cued classification program at a Brownfield site owned by a corporation.
Project Synopsis:
-
Live artillery rounds were discovered in 1999.
-
Concerns for safety of workers and nearby residential areas dictated remote excavation and blast shield containment for safe removal of possible buried UXO.
-
Prior work: The remote removal process was time consuming and costly – excavation and blast containment cost for 294 contacts on four-acre parcel donated for highway improvements was $274,175
-
Site littered with metal clutter from 100’s of years of use.
-
Our Project: Classified EMI data collected using a fixed-grid template
-
80% percent of the detected anomalies declared clutter – estimated cost savings > $1.5M.
-
Identified 10 debris fields that required excavation. 138 ordnance items were found and destroyed within the debris fields.
